Kindergarten Through 6th Grade
Kenwood provides a full-day Kindergarten for children who turn 5 before November 30th, a later cutoff than Fairfax County’s Kindergarten program. Our curriculum surpasses Virginia’s SOL guidelines for each grade and focuses on each child’s individual development. Our extensive curriculum surpasses that of Fairfax County’s and includes everything from reading, math, and science to computers, music, and athletics. We host a number of special events throughout the year, including our much-loved Invention Convention and Fall Festival. The elementary school itself features cozy classrooms and a spacious playground for your child to learn and grow. We also provide hot lunches and snacks.

Before & After School Child Care

Our extensive before and after school child care program is a big help for working parents. While classes run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., child care is available from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. We offer homework assistance, study time, and outdoor play, as well as special soccer and karate classes.

Small Classes

Kenwood is a charming environment to learn in; the classes are small (average of 10, maximum of 15) which offers more one-on-one time with the teacher than your average school. The students receive an individualized experience which helps them grow and learn more than is possible in a large classroom setting. We pride ourselves on our home-like atmosphere and loving faculty.

Our curriculum follows and exceeds the Fairfax County and Virginia Standards of Learning. Our teachers are able to expand their lessons past the state standards due to the small classes and the flexibility of the administration. They have freedom to add units which interest the children and keeps them engaged. The product of this great work is consistent, above-average test scores, and students who truly have a love of learning. We do not administer the SOLs; instead, we give an achievement test which is a more accurate measurement of their abilities and achievement over the course of the school year.
