We recognize that young children develop at their own pace and pattern. Our program is designed to help each child reach his or her greatest potential. Kindergarten is the beginning of our academic learning program and uses the same reading and math series as the upper grades.
Our goal is to develop the whole child socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively. Since we have more than one Kindergarten class, children who have not mastered the necessary skills socially and academically can remain in Kindergarten another year experiencing a different way of presenting the concepts.
All Kenwood Students are expected to strive for academic excellence. Our curriculum is designed to cover all Virginia State requirements in order to facilitate in a smooth transfer to other schools after sixth grade. However, due to small classrooms and dedication of our teachers, we offer at each grade level many extra subjects and activities.
Each student is expected to maintain a high level of effort and achievement throughout the school year, consistent with his or her age, grade level, and capabilities. At the end of the school year, a student who has satisfactorily completed requirements of the present grade is assigned to the next grade level.
